Online CTE Electives for High School Students

CTE Pro gives students in grades 9–12 access to more than 160 online, graded career and technical education electives across 12 career clusters. Schools, microschools, homeschool groups, learning centers, and international programs can add career-focused courses without replacing their existing curriculum. Students may take up to two active courses at a time and receive grading support and a certificate of completion from Highlands Preparatory Academy. Academic credit is determined by the student’s school of record.

Frequently Asked Questions About CTE Pro

Does a student have to be enrolled at Highlands to participate?

No. Any student in grades 9–12 or any adult learner may enroll, regardless of where they attend school. Students seeking formal academic credit may also explore enrollment through one of the Highlands school pathways.

Who grades the students’ work?

Highlands Preparatory Academy qualified grading specialists review student coursework, provide written feedback, and issue final grades. Partner schools do not need to hire additional graders because Highlands manages the grading process.

Do students earn academic credit or a certificate?

Yes. CTE Pro offers year-round enrollment without fixed semester start dates. Students may begin during the school year, over the summer, or as part of an after-hours enrichment program.

Can students begin CTE Pro courses at any time of year?

Students receive a Highlands Preparatory Academy certificate of completion for each course successfully completed. Academic credit is determined by the student’s school of record. Many schools review the certificate and completed coursework when deciding whether to award elective credit.

What technology do students need?

Students need a computer or tablet with reliable internet access. Courses are browser-based, so no software installation is required. Students access their coursework through the Highlands online portal.

How many courses can a student take?

Students may have up to two active courses at a time. Depending on their pace, a student may complete several courses during the year before selecting additional courses from the catalog.

Is CTE Pro available to homeschool students?

Yes. CTE Pro is available to individual homeschool students, homeschool co-ops, microschools, learning centers, private schools, and international programs. Students do not need to change schools or replace their existing curriculum to participate.

What curriculum does CTE Pro use?

Highlands Preparatory Academy partners with eDynamic Learning, a division of Pearson Education, to provide the online CTE and elective curriculum. Highlands provides instructional oversight, grading, written feedback, certificates of completion, and student support.
